On the night of June 16th, alt-pop trio, Little Image, graced the stage of Kilby Court in Salt Lake City on a stop of their KILL THE GHOST Tour. Joined by fellow Texas native Stone and Utah locals Poolhouse this show was a treat for anyone lucky enough to be in attendance. Our team at Soundscript was fortunate enough to be invited out to this incredible performance that even topped our wildest imaginations.
Opening the show tonight was an artist known as Stone. Hailing from Texas, Stone performed a beautiful acoustic set. The young singer-songwriter took advantage of the intimate venue, staring into the eyes of fans as he sang his soft tunes, every song felt like it was just for you. There was a lot of heart in this set, you could feel it throughout the little garage and out onto the patio. Though the set was short, it was memorable and its warmth lingered the rest of the evening.
Joining the KILL THE GHOST Tour for this show, Utah locals Poolhouse took the stage next. Poolhouse is a band that you will never regret catching live. Their indie-rock tunes never fail to set you up for a great night. At this point in their careers, Poolhouse knows how to win over a crowd. In between their songs they strike up conversations and tell bad jokes with the crowd that create an atmosphere of familiarity with them. The set tonight consisted of both newer releases and some old favorites for longtime fans. The boys did a great job getting the energy up and prepping the crowd for our headliners.
A little after 8:30pm, the venue went dark. Then, a projection started, lighting the room and announcing our headliners, Little Image as they took the stage. Opening with MR. CYNICAL off of their latest album KILL THE GHOST the audience was immediately shown what to expect from this show. With moody backlighting on the stage and visuals playing behind the band, paired with the bouncy, bassy tunes the energy in the venue was electric. It was very clear that this group from Dallas was determined to show their Salt Lake fans an awesome night.
Little Image took every opportunity to thank their openers and their fans for being in attendance tonight. The band even came out and played a few songs in the very back of the audience so that all of the fans would be able to experience the music up close and personal. It’s always really cool when artists are eager to make sure people know how grateful they are for all of their support.
I really enjoyed this show so much. The Little Image front-man, Jackson Simmons, is not only a true performer and entertainer, but has some of the most incredible live vocals I have ever heard. I would argue that the live performances even outdo the recorded tracks, I feel very fortunate to have been able to experience this show. Not to mention the band’s drummer, Troy Bruner, played the entire set one-handed as his other hand was broken. Bruner didn’t miss a single beat this show, most of the crowd didn’t even realise he was only using one hand until the band called it out on stage. I think it is an awesome demonstration of the band’s commitment to their art and their show.
I would implore anyone reading this to keep an eye out for Little Image shows coming to their city. With the way this band plays and performs, I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s hard to come across their shows in these smaller, more intimate venues. Little Image has been one of my favorite live shows this year and I look forward to seeing them again next time they are in town.
